Plumbing Estimator/Assistant Project Manager

General Description

The Plumbing Estimator and Assistant Project Manager is responsible for providing accurate and competitive plumbing system estimates and assisting with managing the planning, coordinating, and executing of plumbing projects in the commercial and industrial sectors. The ideal candidate will have experience with estimating plumbing systems and a strong understanding of project management practices. This role ensures that projects meet quality standards, are completed on time, and stay within budget.

Plumbing Estimator Duties:

  • Prepare Cost Estimates: Develop accurate and detailed estimates for commercial and industrial plumbing projects, including material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
  • Bid Preparation: Review project drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed bid proposals.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring competitiveness and reliability of materials and services.
  • Scope of Work Definition: Assist in defining the scope of work, ensuring all aspects of the plumbing installation are covered in the estimate.
  • Analyze Plans and Specifications: Review project specifications, blueprints, and other technical documents to understand the project’s requirements and assess the feasibility.
  • Cost Analysis and Tracking: Track project costs during the pre-construction phase and ensure they align with the initial estimate.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks or issues that could impact the cost or schedule of the project and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain Estimate Database: Maintain an organized system of historical estimates and project data for future reference.

Assistant Project Manager Duties:

  • Project Planning and Scheduling: Assist the Project Manager in creating detailed project schedules, outlining milestones, deadlines, and resource requirements.
  • Coordination and Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients, ensuring clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare project documentation, including progress reports, RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, change orders, and meeting minutes.
  • Field Support: Visit job sites to monitor progress, address challenges, and ensure plumbing work is performed according to specifications.
  • Budget Control: Monitor and report on project budgets, assisting with cost tracking and financial reporting.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in enforcing quality standards, reviewing work for compliance with codes, and ensuring all plumbing installations meet safety regulations and project specifications.
  • Procurement Support: Work with the procurement team to ensure timely delivery of plumbing materials and equipment to meet project schedules.
  • Client Relationship: Support the Project Manager in maintaining positive client relationships, ensuring customer satisfaction, and addressing concerns as they arise.
  • Problem Solving: Assist in resolving project issues, whether related to logistics, manpower, or technical aspects of plumbing installations.

Key Competencies/Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Experience in plumbing, estimating, construction, or project management is preferred, but not required.
    Certifications: Plumbing, Project Management (e.g., PMP), or Estimating certifications are a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with plumbing estimation software (e.g., Trimble Autobid), MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.), and project management software (e.g., Procore).
  • Knowledge: Understanding of plumbing systems, codes, industry standards, and commercial/industrial project processes, and general construction practices are a plus.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organization: Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues early and take proactive steps to mitigate risks or address concerns.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based with occasional travel to job sites.
  • Full-time position, with occasional overtime during busy periods.
