Construction is underway for the new Nature and Culture Museum of Wisconsin (formerly the Milwaukee Public Museum), located at West McKinley Avenue and North Sixth Street in Milwaukee. Expected to open in early 2027, the impressive 200,000-square-foot, five-story facility will feature a design inspired by Wisconsin’s geological formations and natural landscapes, highlighted by an 82-foot-tall central atrium known as the “light well.”
Lee Mechanical began its work on the project in July 2024, with Project Manager Mike Erickson leading the effort. The team’s scope of work includes all above-ground plumbing for the facility, utilizing full BIM coordination and Trimble technology to ensure precision and efficiency throughout the process. The $240 million project presents unique challenges, requiring not only close collaboration with other trades but also coordination with the museum’s exhibit designers, as many of the displays will be suspended from the ceilings. Lee Mechanical’s depth of experience, technical expertise, and dedication to quality make the team well-equipped to manage this complex and highly specialized installation.
The project’s general contractor is Mortenson, managed through its Milwaukee office, with Ennead Architects and Kahler Slater collaborating on the architectural design. Once completed, the museum will serve as both an educational and entertainment destination, offering immersive exhibits that connect visitors with Wisconsin’s natural and cultural history.
At Lee Mechanical, we understand that efficient and well-coordinated plumbing systems are essential to every project’s success. With decades of experience serving the region, our team takes pride in delivering innovative and reliable solutions that exceed expectations. The Nature and Culture Museum of Wisconsin stands as a prime example of Lee Mechanical’s commitment to quality, collaboration, and craftsmanship — helping to bring this iconic cultural landmark to life for future generations.
