General Description

We are seeking an experienced journeyman steamfitter to join our VDC team as a Mechanical Pipe Coordinator. This position is focused on using field experience to develop practical, accurate, and constructible mechanical piping layouts.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of mechanical piping systems, mechanical-room layouts, equipment connections, valves, specialties, supports, and installation sequencing. Advanced computer or drafting experience is preferred, and Revit training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and project requirements.
  • Develop and review constructible mechanical piping layouts.
  • Coordinate mechanical-room piping, equipment connections, mains, branches, valves, and specialties.
  • Identify clashes, access concerns, sequencing issues, and other constructability problems.
  • Produce drawings, PDF markups, and field-installation guidance.
  • Coordinate piping with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, sheet-metal, and other trades.
  • Work with VDC staff, project managers, foremen, engineers, and field personnel.
  • Support prefabrication, spool drawings, hangers, sleeves, inserts, and equipment layouts.
  • Attend coordination meetings and visit jobsites as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of mechanical piping field experience.
  • Strong experience with mechanical-room piping and equipment layouts.
  • Expert understanding of piping systems, fittings, valves, specialties, supports, elevations, slopes, access, and installation sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, details, and equipment submittals.
  • Ability to identify constructability issues and provide practical field solutions.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or Bluebeam experience.
  • BIM or VDC coordination experience.
  • Mechanical detailing, prefabrication, or spool-drawing.
  • Foreman, general foreman, or field-leadership experience.
