Electrical Estimator
General Description
An electrical estimator reviews drawings and specifications and accurately determines labor costs for electrical construction jobs. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for drafting detailed proposal letters, effectively communicating decisions, and completing a comprehensive estimate. This position includes budgeting and cost estimating, with the ability to handle multiple bids at once and adapt to project size.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare Cost Estimates: Develop accurate and detailed estimates for commercial and industrial electrical projects, including material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Bid Preparation: Download project documents, organize the estimate file, set up Accubid Anywhere and Live Count, and identify gaps that require attention.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring competitiveness and reliability of materials and services.
- Scope of Work Definition: Assist in defining the scope of work, ensuring all aspects of the electrical installation are covered in the estimate.
- Analyze Plans and Specifications: Review project specifications, blueprints, and other technical documents to understand the project’s requirements and assess the feasibility.
- Cost Analysis and Tracking: Track project costs during the pre-construction phase and ensure they align with the initial estimate.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks or issues that could impact the cost or schedule of the project and propose mitigation strategies.
- Maintain Estimate Database: Maintain an organized system of historical estimates and project data for future reference.
Key Competencies/Qualifications:
- Education: Electrical apprenticeship school graduation and/or related field experience.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years electrical construction industry experience required; at least 3-4 years commercial electrical estimating.
- Technical Skills: Proficient with estimating software (e.g., Accubid Anywhere, Live Count, Bluebeam, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, material costs, and labor rates in commercial electrical projects.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present estimates and recommendations to clients and project teams.
- Organization: Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex project specifications and requirements.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals.
Working Conditions:
- Preferred Hybrid: 2 days in office, 3 remote and/or Fully Remote for the right candidate.
- Full-time position
