General Description

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of complex water and wastewater projects from inception through completion. This individual ensures that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with design specifications and company standards. The SPM will manage client relationships, lead project teams, and coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, and internal departments to ensure efficient delivery and high-quality outcomes

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Plan, organize, and manage all phases of mechanical construction projects in the water and wastewater sector.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and forecasts; ensure adherence to financial and timeline goals.
  • Oversee design coordination, submittals, procurement, and installation of process piping, HVAC, pumping systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Lead regular project meetings and prepare progress reports for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage change orders, RFIs, submittals, and closeout documentation.

Leadership & Team Coordination:

  • Supervise and mentor project engineers, assistant project managers, and field teams.
  • Collaborate closely with estimating, engineering, and field operations to align project execution with company goals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards across all phases of the project.

Client & Stakeholder Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, design consultants, and municipal partners.
  • Foster long-term relationships and promote repeat business through excellent service delivery and communication.
  • Negotiate contracts, resolve disputes, and ensure client satisfaction.

Financial & Risk Oversight:

  • Monitor cost performance and identify potential risks or opportunities for cost savings.
  • Ensure proper documentation and billing to maintain positive project cash flow.
  • Review subcontractor agreements and supplier contracts to ensure alignment with project objectives

Key Competencies/Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field experience.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience managing large-scale water and wastewater projects for a mechanical contractor 
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, process piping, and treatment plant operations.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of project scheduling (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage complex budgets.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal codes related to water and wastewater infrastructure.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to perform administrative tasks in an office environment, including sitting, typing, and handling documents. Occasional walking, standing, and travel to job sites are required. Must possess sufficient vision and communication skills to perform essential duties. A valid driver’s license is required for periodic travel to project locations.
