Preparation Begins Long Before Lift Day

While the helicopter installation itself took place in a matter of hours, the groundwork began well before the aircraft arrived on site.

Prior to the lift, Lee Mechanical teams carefully prepared the building for the incoming equipment. Structural steel was located and readied for installation, ductwork was set into place, and roofing crews sealed and weatherproofed rooftop penetrations. Temporary weather caps were also installed to protect the building until the rooftop units could be delivered and set.

These early project phases are critical to ensuring equipment can be installed efficiently once lift day arrives.

Coordinating a Complex Helicopter Pick

On the day of the installation, crews completed a series of final preparations before the first unit left the ground.

Temporary weather caps were removed, rooftop unit gaskets were installed, and all 16 RTUs were staged on the ground in a carefully planned sequence to streamline placement on the roof.

Executing a helicopter lift of this scale requires extensive coordination among multiple teams. Safety planning included securing the helicopter landing zone, temporarily closing surrounding roads, evacuating the facility during the operation, and conducting detailed safety briefings for all personnel involved.

Throughout the process, safety remained the highest priority.

Steamfitters connected gas piping, electricians completed power connections, and controls specialists integrated the equipment into the building automation system.
