Fire Protection Project Manager
General Description
The Fire Protection Project Manager oversees the full lifecycle of fire protection construction projects, including planning, design coordination, estimating, scheduling, execution, and closeout. This role requires strong technical knowledge of fire protection systems, leadership in project and client management, and the ability to ensure projects are completed safely, profitably, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at coordinating teams, communicating with stakeholders, and ensuring high-quality project delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Sales, Estimating, and Preconstruction:
- Support business development efforts by preparing accurate estimates, proposals, and scopes of work for fire protection projects.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project requirements.
- Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and evaluate bid qualifications.
- Identify project risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Assist the sales team in client meetings, presentations, and solution development.
Design & Engineering Coordination:
- Oversee and coordinate the design and layout of fire protection systems, including sprinkler, alarm, and suppression systems.
- Ensure all system designs comply with NFPA codes, local building codes, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with in-house designers, fire protection engineers, architects, and general contractors to develop effective, efficient system designs.
- Review and approve design documents, ensuring constructability, code compliance, and alignment with project objectives.
- Recommend system optimizations that improve safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
Project Management & Execution:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring clear communication and a high level of service.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, and manpower forecasts.
- Coordinate with field supervisors and installation teams to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on time.
- Monitor construction progress, conduct site visits, and proactively resolve issues related to design, installation, or scope.
- Ensure strict adherence to quality control measures and safety protocols.
Project Closeout:
- Oversee testing, commissioning, and final inspections of fire protection systems.
- Prepare and manage project closeout documents, including as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranty information.
- Conduct post-project reviews to evaluate performance and identify improvement opportunities.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- 5–7 years of experience in fire protection construction, project management, estimating, or system design.
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of NFPA standards, local fire codes, and construction processes.
- Ability to interpret complex drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
Project & Leadership Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven leadership ability with experience coordinating cross-functional teams.
- Strong negotiation skills with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based with occasional travel to job sites.
- Full-time position, with occasional overtime during busy periods.
