Lee Mechanical is serving as the primary contractor for the DA Tank Replacement project at Aurora St. Luke’s South Shore (ASLSS) in Cudahy, Wisconsin. Supporting subcontractors include JP Cullen, Pieper Electric, and PBBS. Lee is providing Design-Build services for the direct replacement of the hospital’s DA tank, a critical component of the boiler system.
Aurora St. Luke’s South Shore is a 275-bed hospital operating 24/7 to serve patients with a full range of healthcare services. The facility requires uninterrupted operation of its boiler system to provide essential humidification, heating, and sterilization throughout the year.
Lee Mechanical’s scope of work includes one low-voltage electrician, two sprinkler fitters, and up to six steam fitters.
This project presented significant logistical and operational challenges. The DA tank is an integral part of the hospital’s boiler system, which could not be shut down for an extended period without affecting patient care. To ensure uninterrupted operation, Lee Mechanical commissioned and monitored a temporary boiler feed system during the replacement process.
Due to the size of the DA tank, a large exterior louver in the hospital wall had to be carefully removed to extract the old tank and install the new one. Once completed, the louver was precisely reinstalled to restore the building’s envelope integrity.
By combining engineering expertise, innovative planning, and skilled trade execution, Lee Mechanical ensured the safe and efficient replacement of a critical hospital system, all while maintaining uninterrupted service to patients and staff.
